Project Showcase – March 2020
Trident Support Flagpoles is currently putting the finishing touches on their World’s Tallest Obelisk-shaped Flagpole, constructed for the Bahria Town Group’s master-planned gated community located near Karachi Pakistan. Final erection and assembly of this unique and prestigious project has been ongoing at Bahria Town over the last several months, and the project is nearing completion with final commissioning and handover scheduled soon.
This unique flagpole structure is 100 meters tall, making it the World’s Tallest Obelisk-shaped Flagpole, and in addition to it flying a 15 x 22.5 meter Pakistani flag, it features an integrated design of internal LED lighting designed for spectacular visual effects as well four high definition LED video screens installed around the lower section of the flagpole near the base for audio-visual presentations. The flagpole has a base cross section of over 2.5 meters, tapering to a top cross section of about 1.2 meters, and the total weight of the flagpole is over 115 tons. The decorative cladding section is powder coated in a special gold-tone color, and the internal sections have aluminum expanded-mesh panels used as a reflective surface to enhance the LED visibility and effects.
A diverse and highly qualified international team assisted Trident Support with the many aspects of this project, over the two-year design and build process. The design of the flagpole was conducted by Trident Support’s structural engineering team in our Dubai office, with specialized wind analysis conducted by a team of wind-engineering experts in the United Kingdom. The design concept features a steel framed core, with aluminum decorative perforated cladding, and an RGBW LED system behind the cladding which is dynamically controlled to provide a variety of different lighting scenarios. The flagpole was fabricated in the UAE, and a team of international experts from Europe assisted with the design and installation of the internal LED lights and LED screens. Local support in Karachi was expertly handled by our sub-contractor and agent, “The Select Group”, which provided for local civil works, coordination between Trident Support and Bahria Town representatives, and other invaluable support throughout the project.
Below are some photos and video taken during the assembly and erection process, and during testing of the various LED systems. As you can see, this is truly a unique flagpole project and one that we have been extremely proud to bring to fruition for the Bahria Group Team.
